The alumni-learning mash-up

Testimonials, scholarships and credits – reimagining alumni and lifelong learning

Dear Friends,

LinkedIn is often a spark for my newsletters. This week I saw a simple post: advertising an Alumni Scholarship for Atlantic Technological University alumni who wish to return to study at Masters level.

Queue choirs of angels. For this Irish region university, this is simple genius. Most alumni are nearby one of the 7 campuses and this may be the push to re-enter specialist level studies at a 20% discount.

This creative thinking is everywhere. Radboud University offers its alumni a free study credit to attract alumni to return with the tagline: “Graduated and still eager to learn.’ I hear trumpets!

Your challenge this week:

For alumni-facing professionals: Reconsider alumni and lifelong learning! From the archives: Check out the replay of the Protopia Webinar from last November: “Reimagining Lifelong Learning in Alumni Engagement." A panel discussion facilitated by Ryan Catherwood where I was joined by Anne-Ev Enzmann of INSEAD and John Jensen of Washington & Lee University.

For students and alumni: Still a student? Check out my interview with Roostervane where I set out some strategies to maximise your connection to your alumni network. It can be intimidating no doubt about it, but start small – and reach out often!

Thinking of grad school? Check out my University Affairs article ‘How alumni can help supercharge graduate school success’ - alumni can support you across your whole graduate studies journey!

Did you know? I am speaking at Alumni Day at Constructors University in Germany next week? Each attendee is getting a copy of The Alumni Way book! I foresee an exciting mass book signing! We will also be adding extra lightning bolts to their networking!

Curious to hear more about events like this? Book a Discovery Call and let’s talk!

And what about your own alumni-based lifelong learning? It’s still isn’t too late to register for the ICARe Conference in Prague in June!! The International Conference on Alumni Relations will energise your alumni small shop – and you get a supportive community for life as a bonus!!

Yours in alumni learning,

Maria

Quote from the book

“Our mind tingles with excitement at these events – the times when learning happens, and we don’t even notice. What are the passion points that we might share with fellow alumni?”
